U.S. Markets for Fracture Fixation Products

The United States (U.S.) market for fracture fixation products, as covered by the scope of this report, consists of two segments: external fixation devices and internal fixation devices. External fixation devices provide stabilization through a series of frames and pins that are placed on the outside of the body and attached to the bone through the skin (braces, casts, and splints also are used as external fixation devices but are outside the scope of this report). Internal fixation devices are placed directly on or inside the bone to support the body’s natural healing process; these devices include intramedullary (IM) nails, pins, plating systems, screws, and miscellaneous devices such as cables, IM reamers, staples, and wires.
