United States Markets for Image-Guided Surgery Products

There are two broad categories of image-guided surgery (IGS). The first category comprises interventional and surgical procedures that employ imaging systems forthe direct visualization of targeted anatomic structures, manually guided surgical tools, and implanted devices. The second category of IGS comprises standard and minimally invasive procedures that use computer-assisted tracking devices for the continuous three-dimensional (3D) localization of manually controlled surgical toolsin relation to the targeted patient anatomy.

The scope of the market analysis for IGS products in the United States (U.S.), as covered by this report, includes:

  • multipurpose and specialty imaging systems (including computed tomography [CT], magnetic resonance imaging [MRI], nuclear medicine/molecular imaging, noninvasive and intravascular ultrasound, and X-ray systems), that are used in conjunction with catheter-based and open surgical interventions; and,
  • computer-assisted intraoperative surgical navigation systems, comprising dedicated workstations, application-specific software packages, and special registration/tracking devices.
