Multiple methodologies were used to obtain the required etiologic and epidemiologic data for this report. In addition to proprietary data from Medtech Insight’s internal resources, many agencies and organizations have provided information including Alzheimer’s Disease International, Association France Parkinson, Cystic Fibrosis Europe, European Association of Urology, European Cancer Observatory, European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, European Haemophilia Consortium, European Kidney Health Alliance, European Respiratory Society, European Society of Cardiology, French Cystic Fibrosis Association, French Society for Research and Sleep Medicine, International Diabetes Federation, International Glaucoma Association, International Osteoporosis Foundation, Multiple Sclerosis International Federation, Myasthenia Gravis Association, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, World Endometriosis Research Foundation, and the World Health Organization, among others. Data were verified and corroborated by other primary sources and by secondary sources such as online databases and press releases.
While secondary sources are believed to offer the best data on disease incidence and prevalence, the estimation of trends from these data is complicated by periodic changes in reporting and classification methods.
