Diseases and disorders of the brain and nervous system afflict approximately 1 in 5 people in the United States (U.S.). The incidence of neurologic disorders is greatest in the elderly, and these conditions will become more prevalent over the next few decades as the elderly population continues to rise. Emerging tissue engineering and cell transplantation therapies have the potential to provide solutions to many of the treatment challenges facing neurologists today.
