Cardiovascular diseases/disorders (CVDs) comprise a variety of acquired or congenital medical conditions that are characterized by the inability of the cardiovascular system to sustain an adequate flow of blood (with its supply of oxygen and nutrients) to the organs and tissues of the body. Cardiovascular diseases/disorders may be manifested by the alteration, deformation, or obstruction of arterial or venous pathways; distortion in the electrical conducting activity of the heart, or impaired functioning of the heart’s musculature or valves; these manifestations may be primary or secondary in nature, and may occur in combination.
