With over 200,000 cases expected in 2003, breast cancer will be the most frequently diagnosed non-skin malignancy in U.S. women. In 2002, breast cancer lead to the deaths of approximately 39,600 women, second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer mortality in women. It is estimated that an American woman’s lifetime risk of developing breast cancer is about one in eight.
