The development of endoscopic devices with working channels through which surgical instruments could be introduced heralded the creation of the new field of minimally invasive endoscopic surgery, which has expanded to include a wide range of specialty procedures; the focus of this report is general and pelvic endoscopic surgical procedures performed in the United States (U.S.). Growing at a healthy compound annual rate of 9.6%, the U.S. market for general and pelvic endoscopic surgery products, which was valued at approximately $2,300 million in 2003, is expected to reach an estimated value of more than $5,700 million in the year 2013.
