U.S. Markets for Diagnostic Imaging Systems
Diagnostic imaging tools that enable clinicians to visualize the anatomic structure and evaluate the functional performance of the body’s internal organs and tissues are indispensable in the practice of modern medicine. Medical diagnostic imaging technology has evolved significantly since the initial use of X-rays more than a century ago to visualize bones in the body. Today, the ability to scan the entire body in a matter of seconds and identify abnormalities with pinpoint accuracy is taken for granted. Medical imaging technology now is firmly established as an integral part of modern healthcare; this is clearly demonstrated by the fact that in 2004 more than 300 million medical imaging procedures were performed in the United States (U.S.) alone.
