International Markets for Vascular Access Site Closure Devices, July 2014

Every 34 seconds someone in the U.S. will suffer a coronary event, and every 83 seconds someone will die from such an event.  In the next decade, the number of people living in the U.S. who have coronary and peripheral vascular disease is expected to continue to increase along with expansion in the elderly segment of the population and growth in the number of people with chronic disorders such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity.  Currently, 15.4 million adults age 20 or older in the U.S. suffer from coronary heart disease and 8.5 million adults age 20 or older in the U.S. have peripheral artery disease.

Interventional management of cardiovascular and peripheral vascular diseases via transcatheter techniques requires vascular access site management systems in order to prevent bleeding and the formation of hematoma following introducer/sheath removal.  Vascular access site closure devices have evolved beyond simple manual compression devices since their initial introduction in 1995 by Datascope (now part of Maquet Holding).  However, manual compression remains the gold standard despite limitations to its use, including the need for the patient to be undergoing anticoagulation therapy or have undergone an endovascular intervention with a large access site.  In 2013, vascular access site management devices for cardiovascular and peripheral indications generated approximately $923.7 million internationally in corresponding product sales; it is expected that, in the year 2018, these methods will generate an estimated $1.2 billion in corresponding product sales.

This dynamic, new report from Medtech Insight includes analyses of products, current and emerging markets, competitors, and opportunities for suppliers of vascular access site management devices to international markets.  Regions covered in this report include North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East, and Central and South America.  Select countries and the vascular access site management systems markets from these regions are analyzed in depth.
