The Worldwide Market for Diagnostic Imaging Equipment

Diagnostic imaging tools enabling clinicians to visualize the anatomic structure and evaluate the functional performance of the body’s internal organs and tissues are indispensable in the practice of modern medicine. The use of particular diagnostic imaging
modalities and the corresponding demand for particular types of imaging equipment, however, vary significantly among countries and geographic regions around the world. The scope and dynamics of imaging equipment demand and the associated product markets typically correlate well with certain fundamentals such as the state of the local economy and public healthcare policy; the size and composition of financial, human, and logistical resources dedicated to healthcare; macro-epidemiology trending and corresponding healthcare priorities; and prevailing approaches to the management of major medical conditions, which often depend heavily on image-based diagnostics.

For the purposes of this report, the global diagnostic imaging equipment marketplace has been divided into major national/regional segments that include the United States (U.S.), Europe, Japan, and the rest of the world. For the purposes of this report, “Europe” encompasses all of the countries located on the European continent from the Atlantic Ocean to the Ural Mountains, including the western half of Russia; also included are Cyprus, Iceland, Ireland, Malta, Turkey, and the United Kingdom (U.K.). “Rest of the World” encompasses the nations of Africa, the Middle East (except Turkey), Central America, and South America; the island nations of the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic oceans (excluding those previously mentioned as part of “Europe”); all Asian nations (except Japan); Canada; Mexico; and the eastern half of Russia.
