2015 MedDeviceTracker Key Topics Report

In the following report, we provide an overview of select markets in medtech including areas covered by medical devices as well as companion diagnostics. As we built out our event-based coverage of the medtech universe in MedDeviceTracker, we sought to analyze key commercial and market segments of interest. In the report we span the gamut of disease indications, providing both a clinical context and a market rationale for device or diagnostic development in the space.

We first define the regulatory landscape in device development. This overview includes the current FDA classification system in addition to the current pathways to approval. We analyze the historical trends for each of the approval pathways which give us a stronger idea of which types of strategies are increasing or decreasing over time.

For ophthalmology, urology, neurology, and oncology devices and diagnostics, we explain the current market and competitive landscapes. Additionally, we provide recent information on devices or diagnostics in development for these spaces with insight into earnings potential. We also provide in-depth analysis of recent deals in the medtech space in collaboration with Strategic Transactions. Finally, as we look to the future of medtech coverage, we leverage our database tools to report large impact catalysts for and events of interest in the indications discussed for the first half of 2015.

This report does not cover the cardiology space; we will release two special reports in cardiovascular indications in 2015. The first report will cover ventricular assist devices (VADs), implantable pressure monitors for heart failure, and transcatheter heart valve implantation. The second report will cover coronary and peripheral arterial stents and balloons. These comprehensive reports will address types of devices and their classification, how they are used, market features, current devices and pipelines, reimbursement issues, and competition. These cardiovascular reports will be available to all MedDeviceTracker subscribers. For access to MedDeviceTracker please contact your sales representative or email [email protected].
